Hey, That’s My Pew

Just the other day, I was coming up to my regular spot in the chapel, and I found I couldn’t get in. The pew holds four and there are four of us who usually sit there so I wondered who took the space? Looking across I saw Fr Miguel Segura, so I meandered over to another pew that usually has an empty space.

Just a week ago Fr Miguel was the rector of this huge house of 400 seminarians, but now he is among us as just another brother: he even has to look for his own spot in the chapel. He looks extremely happy, like a huge weight was lifted from his shoulders. He sits at the table, joins our
conversations, and prays with us as just another brother.

Fr William Meade has picked up his role in stride and everything has kept running without any interruption, save getting a special meal to celebrate having a new rector.

One thing our Papal Delegate has asked is that we rotate the superiors more often. It is better if superiors have the experience of listening and obeying too. The plan is to rotate every few years, with the definition of “few” left to the discretion of the Legion through our revision process. I
think this will help all of us be better religious which in turn will make us better apostles.

About Fr Matthew P. Schneider, LC

In 2001, I traveled from Calgary, Canada to join the Legion. Since then I’ve been all over North America and spent some time in Rome. I currently reside in Washington doing a bunch of writing and taking care of the community while studying my Licentiate in Theology (between Masters and Doctorate). I’m most well-known on Instagram and Twitter where I have about 6,500 and 40,000 followers respectively.
