Keep the word of God

“Keep the word of God.. Let it pierce deep into our inmost soul and penetrate your feelings and actions.   Eat well and your soul will delight and grow.  Do not forget to eat your bread or your heart will wither, but let your soul feast richly.”  – St. Bernard of Clairvaux

Coming from the Michigan, the best possible meal is pictured here.  A juicy piece of steak and a baked potato with plenty of butter and sour cream on top.  Although the salad, green beans and appetizers are certainly welcome additions, the steak and potatoes are the heart of the meal.  Likewise, daily Scriptural reading and meditation on the Gospel are my “spiritual” meat and potatoes.  Devotionals and other Theological works are nice additions, but I most benefit from focusing and digesting the Word of God coming directly from the mouth of Christ.  These are the words that ring in my ears and move my heart and will to action.  Try to make time for this all important spiritual meal!
