Guard against jealousy

“We should guard against jealousy, and even the slightest sentiment thereof. This vice is absolutely opposed to a pure and sincere zeal for the glory of God, and is a certain proof of secret and subtle pride.”  St. Vincent de Paul

There is so much envy in our culture today.  An excessive supply of the latest and greatest fashion clothes, hand bags and dress shoes, fancy sport cars, elaborate house decorations and furniture, “over the top” vacations, super high tech “gadgets”, lavish jewelry, etc…all to keep up with Betty Sue or Billy Bob.   If you have worked hard for your money, having “nice” things in moderation is totally fine and many people use their homes for “positive” entertaining and fundraisers, but at times this desire to have “an edge” can be the driving force behind our spending habits.  Focus more on the virtues of others, not so much on their material possessions or mere physical appearance, and instead of being envious, learn from them and try to put their virtues into practice.
