Last weekend, Archbishop De Paolis offered some clarifications and updates to the Legionaries that I expect many people will find of interest.
 
First, we all know that there will be revisions of the Legion’s constitutions.  However, until this process is finished and approved by the extraordinary general chapter and the Holy See, the current constitutions remain in force, unless he makes a specific exception.  In the same way, all the existing lines of authority remain in place and the superiors keep functioning according to the Legion’s constitutions.
 
Second, this year’s ordinations of new Legionary priests will go forward as scheduled on December 24 in Rome.  We’re expecting a large class this year – perhaps the largest ever.  Archbishop De Paolis also indicated that we will welcome those who continue to be called to join the congregation.  Let us, therefore, pray for our transitional deacons – Archbishop Chaput will ordain three more in Cheshire this Saturday – and for all the candidates worldwide.  
 
As significant decisions are taken and indications given, I’ll post them here on Regnum Christi Live.  We want to be as transparent as possible going forward about what is happening.
 
I should point out, however, that not every discussion, conference or written communication during this period will be public.  With so much important work to do that requires input from a great many people, Archbishop De Paolis will, of necessity, have to conduct a considerable amount of correspondence and discussion with people throughout the organization.  Much of this will involve gathering information and input for making decisions.  We believe it will be frank and honest – and deserving of confidentiality.
 
In short, all of us can expect transparency about decisions and the direction of the Legion and Regnum Christi.  At the same time, much of the input to the decision-making will be confidential, which would be the norm in any organization dealing with important and complex issues.
