Get back up!

“There is still time for endurance, time for patience, time for healing, time for change. Have you slipped? Rise up. Have you sinned? Cease. Do not stand among sinners, but leap aside.”  (St. Basil)

I was impressed by the documentary, “Band of Brothers.” It was amazing to see this rag-tag group of worn down soldiers fight wounded and how some requested to return to battle after recovering from surgery or a hospital visit.  We too have to fight wounded and continually get back up, in spite of our misery and shortfalls.  Christ does not demand victories, but he asks us to get back up and he offers the Sacrament of Confession as the most effective way to patch our wounds and get us back into the mix.  Although we may lose some battles, this attitude of dogged perseverance and humility will eventually help us win the war.  There are many souls counting on us…it really matters!
